New CMD Zeus Propulsion Package Options Expand to Include 600 Horsepower

(Charleston, S.C.) – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD)has announced the Zeus 3800 will be available July, 2008 at 600 HP, with CMD’s QSC8.3-600.

“The 600 HP Zeus rating utilizes the Zeus 3800 pod, and our QSC8.3-600 engine that has been in production for over a year,” said Gary Dickman, vice president of sales & marketing for CMD. “We are targeting 38’ plus sportfishers and cruising yachts that typically would be powered by 700 to 800 HP conventional inboards."

With this announcement CMD now offers the most powerful pod propulsion system in two engine classes, the QSC8.3-600, and for smaller vessels the Zeus 3500 with QSB5.9-480. “Unlike our competitor’s misleading nomenclature, “ Dickman said, “CMD continues to use crankshaft horsepower in our naming convention to avoid consumer confusion about the horsepower they are purchasing."

In addition to highest power density in two engines classes, Zeus has a number of other features that are unique among pod propulsion systems.

Features unique to Zeus:

Pod protected by tunnel mounting (reduced impact vulnerability);

Breakaway skeg (reduced impact vulnerability);

Skyhook™ (maintains position and orientation with touch of a button);

Integrated automatic trim system (hands free optimization of horizon visibility acceleration and fuel economy, as well improved hull impact vulnerability);

Integrated trolling valve (joystick docking with precision speed control);

Rear-facing props (propeller impact vulnerability and efficiency);

Integrated autopilot (simplifies navigation).
