(Charleston, South
Carolina) – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, confident with the long
term reliable performance of the QSB5.9 series engines, is for the first
time releasing the fully-electronic engine with an Intermittent rating
for the ES 230 sterndrive package. Appealing to commercial fishermen
who currently use outboard motors or gasoline sterndrive propulsion
packages, the new inboard engine is coupled with the renowned Bravo
Two (1.5:1) sterndrive. Previously the engine and drive package were
available only in a High Output recreational application.
The Intermittent rating was achieved by increasing the engine’s
rpm to 3000 rpm, reducing the torque to below the maximum torque limit
of the Bravo drive. Engineers note this package is similar to the packages
Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has delivered to the US Navy for use in the
Navy’s 7mRHIBs.
SmartCraft capable, the new QSB5.9 ES 230 is available with either a
heat exchanger or keel-cooling option allowing for wide adaptability
in a variety of new boats or as repowers. The engine is covered by a
standard two year Quantum Series warranty, while the Bravo Two sterndrive
will have a one year/400 hour warranty in commercial applications and
one year warranty in recreational applications.
Based in
Charleston, South Carolina (USA), Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is responsible
for designing, manufacturing and providing reliable after-sales support
worldwide for marine products. It offers a broad range of power, with
available ratings from 120-715HP for recreational applications and 77-588HP
for commercial use. Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is a joint venture between
Cummins Marine and Mercury Marine and can be found on the Internet at
