CMD Announces QSD4.2-350 HP Sterndrive

(Charleston, S.C.) – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel announced today that the QSD engine series will now be available in a sterndrive configuration up to 350 HP using the proven SeaCore Bravo III XR MerCruiser sterndrive with a gear ratio of 1.81:1. Featuring a high pressure common rail fuel system and SmartCraft™ capability, the QSD4.2 platform provides a powerful and compact diesel sterndrive propulsion solution with reduced noise and improved sociability up to 350 HP. The package (QSD4.2-350) will also be available with a SeaCore Bravo I XR sterndrive with a gear ratio of 1.50:1 later this year. The SeaCore Bravo I and III XR sterndrives incorporate Mercury Racing gears in the upper and lower gear sets for longer life and greater load capacity.

“Prior to this point, the top end of our sterndrive product offering was 320 HP,” said Gary Dickman, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “The QSD4.2-350 will open doors into larger boats and new accounts as well as answer the request from our current boat builder partners for a sterndrive package with greater horsepower. The SeaCore Bravo III XR Drive will be an excellent match for the compact, powerful QSD4.2-350 product delivering enhanced durability and corrosion fighting capability,” said Dickman.

Seacore is a comprehensive corrosion protection system that improves upon Cummins MerCruiser’s already outstanding saltwater performance and CMD backs it up with a 4-year limited sterndrive corrosion warranty. Seacore protects to the core through heavy-duty industrial anodizing treatment to all aluminum parts that are exposed to seawater that results in a surface that’s more abrasion-resistant than case-hardened steel and non-conductive to reduce electrolysis. The treatment applies to all aluminum drive & transom surfaces including interior water and exhaust passages.
