(Charleston, South
Carolina) – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel answers the yachtsman’s
call for increased power and speed, with the introduction of a new line
of QSM11 engines that contribute to better environmental sociability,
and that maintain the reliability for which CMD is known. The QSM11-715
rating, (705 bhp) is EPA Tier 2 certified in the recreational market.
Engineers achieved the higher rating by refining performance components,
including an ingenious new piston bowl design. The addition of a deeper
bowl and finely tuned injector spray angle resulted in reduced soot
levels. Next, a new camshaft was adopted to permit increased injector
flow rate without overloading the camshaft. Additional testing resulted
in the development of a new generation of injectors to match these two
new components.
To ensure durability, CMD beefed up the flywheel and oil pan to accommodate
the higher engine speeds. Now rated at 2500 rpm, up from 2300 rpm in
the lower hp offerings, the QSM11-715 has improved performance on the
propeller curve yielding better slow speed maneuvering around the dock.
Boaters will also notice stronger acceleration and better overall top
end vessel performance. With a cruise engine speed of 2300 rpm, the
QSM11-715 has more available horsepower and torque than its QSM11-670
sibling running at the same engine speed.
As with earlier QSM11 engines, the in-line 6-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel
is designed for quiet and fuel-efficient operation. A low profile design
allows for ease of installation and easy service access. Replaceable
wet cylinder liners result in longer life and lower rebuild costs.
Based in
Charleston, South Carolina (USA), Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is responsible
for designing, manufacturing and providing reliable after-sales support
worldwide for marine products. It offers a broad range of power, with
available ratings from 120-715HP for recreational applications and 77-588HP
for commercial use. Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is a joint venture between
Cummins Marine and Mercury Marine and can be found on the Internet at
