CUMMINS MERCRUISER DIESEL INTRODUCES NEW QSM11 660HP ENGINE RATING, FIRST TO BE EPA TIER 2 EMISSIONS CERTIFIED

CHARLESTON, SC (12 February 2003) – The Cummins MerCruiser Diesel new product team has introduced a new 660 horsepower rating for the QSM11 electronic engine.  Producing 660 brake horsepower (492 kW) for recreational high-output applications, the new QSM11-660 features a marine electronic and fuel control system with a wide range of standard and optional features.  Standard features of the 6-cylinder in-line 10.8-liter displacement QSM11-660 include an Engine Control Module (ECM), electronic engine sensors, diagnostics, and more!

In addition to its proven reliability, the QSM11-660 also offers electronic options including the industry’s most comprehensive marine package called C-Cruise.  This exciting package offers marine cruise control – the only package of its kind in the industry.  Other C-Cruise options include slow idle, engine synchronization for twin-engine applications, advanced interactive digital (LCD) engine displays, backup throttles, prognostics and diagnostics.

According to Scott Patrohay, President of the newly formed joint venture, “Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is proud of the QSM11-660 and we are pleased to be able to expand our product line and offer this new rating.  We’re proud to have been the first to offer products meeting EPA Tier 2 emissions compliance.  We anticipate increased new sales and many repower opportunities with the 660.”

Mike Abraham, Performance and Program Technical Leader said, “despite the tough Tier 2 emissions limits, we’ve been able to achieve a substantial uprate while maintaining sociability.  Not only are we offering more power with the QSM11-660, this engine is the first to have met the stringent EPA Tier 2 regulations and become certified. The extra power was achieved with a calibration change and can be purchased for existing QSM11 engines rated at 635 horsepower. We’re also introducing a new 450 horsepower rating for the QSM11 ideal for trawlers.  This expands the overall range of the engine and its applications.”

The engine’s four-cycle design promotes quiet and fuel-efficient operation (33.3 gal/hr @ 2300 RPM).  The full authority electronic Quantum System optimizes combustion for increased engine performance and virtually smoke free operation.  The engine’s compact size promotes ease of installation and easy access for maintenance. The engine is currently in full production and immediate orders are being accepted.  Contact your local distributor for ordering and delivery information.
