Cabo Yachts to offer Cummins MerCruiser Diesel QSC83-540 engine for enhanced performance

When it comes to high performance power plants, the Quantum Series QSC8.3-540 has captured boat builders' attention. The engine offers improved fuel economy, increased torque, greater acceleration, and faster top-end speed, plus dramatically reduced noise and vibration, with virtually no smoke or odor.

The Cummins MerCruiser QSC8.3 common rail design maintains high injection pressures regardless of the engine speed, which provides outstanding performance across the entire operating range. Full-authority electronic fuel injection and integrated electronics further improve operating efficiencies and provide operators with unprecedented control.

"The Cummins engines are amazingly quiet at idle and mid-range - that's what everybody wants," said Phil Arnold, engineer for Cabo Yachts, "and with cruise speeds well in excess of 30 knots, it's a desirable combination."

The 8.3 liter, 540 horsepower twin Cummins MerCruiser QSC8.3 diesel engines and 19,500-pound Cabo 35 Express hit a high end 36.4 knots at 2,650 RPM, with a 256 nautical miles range at this blistering speed on 400 gallons of fuel. In short, everything most anglers need to get out fast, go further, spend more time fishing and get back in time to weigh in the big one.

The inspiration and impetus for this initial pairing involved the efforts of several people at Cabo Yachts, Cummins Cal Pacific, and the yacht broker, Stan Miller Yachts. "With the new QSC, there's virtually no smoke or vibration," said John Buettner, owner of Stan Miller Yachts, "just like Cummins MerCruiser Diesel promised."
