Anchors Away and Cummins MerCruiser Hit the Water Again
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Anchors Away, a nonprofit outdoor educational and recreation program that uses water sports to liberate and empower disabled veterans and civilians, and Cummins MerCruiser Diesel have entered the QuadZeus.com fishing boat into the 18th Annual Key West Boats Fishing for Miracles King Mackerel Tournament. Fishing begins Friday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 a.m. It will be hosted by the Ripley Light Yacht Club August 11t through the 13. Scales will be open for weigh-ins on Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ripley Light Marina dock.
This will not be the first fishing tournament for Team Anchors Away and QuadZeus.com: earlier this summer the pair came together to fish the Charleston Angler MegaDock Billfish Tournament. The duo also competed in last year’s Fishing for Miracles King Mackerel Tournament. QuadZeus.com is a 60-foot convertible, powered by four Cummins MerCruiser Diesel QSC8.3-liter 600-hp engine/pod units, giving it joystick maneuverability and outstanding speed and range. The boat serves as a testing and demonstration platform for Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, which is headquartered in Charleston. The Anchors Away Disabled Fishing team consists of veterans and other members of the community with a variety of mental and physical disabilities, as well as specially trained volunteers who ensure that the activity is safe and fun for everyone on the boat. The Fishing for Miracles Tournament is a fundraising event that benefits two very special programs, the MUSC Children’s Hospital and the Costal Conservation Association. An integral part of the Medical University of South Carolina, the MUSC Children's Hospital is dedicated to enhancing the health of children throughout South Carolina, and to providing an environment that supports excellence in pediatric patient care, teaching and research. The CCA advises and educates the public on conservation of marine resources. The objective of CCA is to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of these coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.
