CMD’s High-Speed Diesel Marine Systems Transitioning to Mercury Marine Sales and Support Channels
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) announced today that Mercury Marine will assume future responsibility for the worldwide sales, service, distribution and support of CMD’s range of high-speed diesel marine engine systems (under 5 liter displacement), including the TDI/SDI range of Volkswagen engines.
The transition of responsibilities from CMD to Mercury Marine has begun and is anticipated to continue into 2012. Mercury and Cummins Inc., parent companies of the CMD joint venture, are working to ensure a smooth and orderly transition of the business.
“This move enables us to leverage Mercury’s extensive global sales, service and distribution channels to more effectively serve our customers,” said Mark Schwabero, president of Mercury Marine. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Cummins.”
Cummins and Mercury established the CMD joint venture in 2002 with the purpose of supplying integrated diesel propulsion systems to the worldwide recreational and commercial marine markets.
“Both CMD and Mercury Marine are working closely together to ensure this transition is trouble-free for our customers, who will also continue to be able to rely on CMD for the balance of their propulsion requirements above the high speed range.” said Alex Savelli, President – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel.
The agreement to transition the high-speed diesel products to Mercury Marine is consistent with efforts by Cummins, Mercury and CMD to realign their business appropriately for new and very different market conditions.
