CMD Introduces QSD with Light Commercial Rating

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Cummins MerCruiser Diesel’s versatile QSD2.8 and QSD4.2 engines will soon be available with a Light Commercial (LC) rating.

Pending Environmental Protection Agency approval, the QSD2.8-220 hp and QSD4.2-320 hp models will be available as sterndrives and inboards with the LC rating. LC engines are made for high-speed, low-load commercial and government service vessels. As with the standard High Output rating, LC engines are intended for variable-load applications where full-power operation is limited to one hour out of every eight, with total operation of less than 500 hours per year. The QSD LC engines will be warranted for one year or 500 hours, whichever comes from first.

CMD has been given the indication that EPA approval will be granted in the first quarter of 2009. As soon as the certificate is granted, the order board will be opened and pricing will be announced to the CMD distribution channel.

CMD will be exhibiting its full range of propulsion systems, including the QSD lineup, at the 2009 Miami International Boat Show, Feb. 12-16. The CMD booth is located at P82 in the Miami Beach Convention Center and its on on-water display is located on Pier 1 of the Sea Isle Marina, just across Biscayne Bay in Miami. The on-water display will include a Trophy Sportfishing Boat, powered by a QSD2.8-220 sterndrive, and a Jeanneau Prestige 38S, powered by a pair of QSD4.2-320 sterndrives with the Axius® joystick control system. To arrange for a sea trial on any of the 10 boats in CMD’s Sea Isle display, visit the booth in the Convention Center or Pier 1.
